Written for Vienna Philharmonic tuba player Ronald Pisarkiewicz, Duo A11 for violin and tuba is a parody of baroque-classical stereotypes of musical form. The bass tuba is used as a quasi-pedal point in a suite "im alten Stil" (a popular epithet used in the early 20th century by composers such as Max Reger), whimsically consisting of derivatives of a Prelude, a Gavotte, and a "quasi" Chaconne.
