Strauss had originally intended to always perform Don Quixote, if possible, together with Heldenleben, „since Don Q. in particular is only fully understandable alongside Heldenleben.“ To this day, Strauss’ has only rarely complied with this wish. The Urtext edition now being published by Breitkopf & Härtel can help here. Once again, the new edition is based on Strauss’ own engraver's model, which helps to clarify numerous misunderstandings and makes it possible to correct dozens of traditional errors. In addition, the harmony parts now appear for the first time completely engraved - these were previously only available in handwritten form. In addition, we are supplementing this edition with a piano reduction of the most important orchestral passages, which are helpful for studying the parts for solo violoncello and solo viola. Of course, the two solo parts are also included separately with this commercial piano reduction.
