The fifth and final book in the Violin series of Janice Tucker Rhoda's The ABCs of Strings, is designed to polish the musicianship and technique of the advanced-level student of any age. As with the earlier books in the series, there is a judicious mix of popular folk and classical material interspersed with original pieces by the author written to address particular challenges. The book is divided into 13 lessons and introduces the easier flat keys (F, Bb, D Minor) as well as the higher sharp keys (B Major, etc.) The final lessons also employ shifts between 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions to good effect. Familiar melodies by Dvořák, Saint-Saëns, Kreutzer, Schubert, Sibelius and Franck are included as well as a useful practice planner. The ABCs of Violin for the Budding Virtuoso is a superb tool for the more advance-level student, hungry for repertoire, at whatever age.
