Adler's Fantasy was composed for his former student Michael Brown, who premiered the work at Juilliard at an all-Adler concert to honor the composer's 85th birthday. The one movement work begins with a majestic introduction twice interrupted by short spurts of agitated music. This leads to a fast virtuosic main section written to show off the dexterity of any soloist. Adler has written about the work, "I have always felt that we are living in a most exciting time and the agitation and exuberance of this main section is to demonstrate my very optimistic outlook."
