In his Duo A6 for violin and trombone the composer seems to revert once more to the march-like character of Duo A4. This character, however, is now intensified into something grotesque and absurd through orgies of glissandi in both instruments and unexpected rhythmic interrelationships. Trombone and violin indulge in a satirical trial of strength, tailor-made for the character of the philharmonic principal trombone-player and dedicatee Rudolf Josel. However, the piece was later performed by his successor, the internationally sought-after British trombonist Ian Bousfield, and the composer.
