Giovanni Battista Dalla Gostena is considered one of the most important Genoese composers of his time and he played a key role in the history of the Genoese music between the XVI and the XVII century. His work is really impressive if we consider the short time of his activity (only 11 years from 1582 to 1593). It includes 28 lute's pieces, canzonette, a lot of madrigals, motets and 3 Magnificat. The volume includes several different compositions for the lute (dances, fantasias and French chansons) by Simone Molinaro and 28 pieces (25 fantasias and 3 French chansons) by Gio: Battista Dalla Gostena prefaced by the following sentence: "Seguono venticinque Fantasie di Gio: Battista Dalla Gostena zio e maestro del Molinario".
