Justus Johann Friedrich Dotzauer was a trained cellist and composer of an opera, several symphonies, a mass and chamber music. Of his extensive oeuvre, however, his pedagogical works, including two cello schools and numerous etudes, are still highly valued today. As early as the 19th century, there were attempts to compile a selection of them. Of these, the edition by Johannes Klingenberg presented here in four volumes has proved the most successful.
