The title of the trio for flute, violin and piano op. 59 is ambiguous. Vent eau feu is a reference to the constellations of its first interpreters Frank Michael, Anneliese Schlicker and Hanno Haag: vent (wind, air) eau (water), feu (fire). If the letter e is omitted from eau, the title ("Feuerwind") refers to the nature of the piece and its interpretation. Composed in contemporary tonal language, the serenade is full of surprises: Frequent changes in performance markings, tempi and time signatures illustrate the alternation of intimate cantilenas and rhythmic sections. A rewarding challenge.
