Sibelius composed Den 25 Oktober 1902 for mixed choir as a birthday gift to a friend, Thérèse Hahl (1842-1911) who enjoyed a position of high esteem in Helsinki concert life and was a sought-after oratorio soloist. There are two different settings to the same text in Swedish by Nils Wasastjerna, both included in this publication, which is and is based on the complete critical edition "Jean Sibelius Works "(JSW).
