He owes his posthumous fame above all to the prominence of his pupils, including Gustav Mahler, Franz Schreker, Richard Strauss and Hugo Wolf. Besides the once-celebrated serenades, Fuchs composed ambitious chamber music, including a number of piano trios. In Trio op. 115, the proximity to Brahms is clearly audible. The distinctive instrumentation with viola rather than violoncello and the unusual key of F-sharp minor lend the work a special colour. Based on the autograph, the edition offers a carefully reviewed musical text and opens up an exciting repertoire beyond the canon.

G.
