Bartók’s Mikrokosmos has been used by countless piano teachers and their students all over the world since its conception in the early twentieth century. It provides a solid foundation on which to build good technique and an early understanding of the very basics of music itself. These principles have, in Siegfried Steinkogler’s capable hands, made an excellent transition to guitar with these arrangements for two guitars. Only the easiest pieces have been used, with most of them using only five notes for each player beginning in the first position and slowly working through the volume to the fifth position. On completing the pieces in this volume, players may like to tackle Steinkogler’s arrangements from Bartók’s For Children.
