The piano works by the Swiss composer Erich Schmid (1907-2000), written between 1926 and 1943, are close to the Viennese School of Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern, but bring their own special colour to this spectrum. Even where they are twelve-tonal, Schmid's piano pieces do not exhaust themselves in strict constructivism, but often have a playful, motoric side. With their manageable range and complexity, they provide a comparatively easy access to a style that was formative in the first half of the 20th century. Splitter (Volume 2), a collection of folk song arrangements and character pieces in a freely tonal style, is particularly easy to play. Schmid's first collection Kleine Musik (Volume 1) can also be mastered by amateurs.
