Sonatina in G major for violin and piano was writtenduring a period of relaxed creativity andfamily contentment. Dvorak wrote it in America at the end of 1893 and dedicatedit to hischildren who were both attending the National Conservatory in New York, wherethe composeracted as director. His daughter Otylie, later the wife of Josef Suk, and his10-year-old sonAntonin, also premiered the work at a family concert. The purpose for which itwas intendedis reflected in the simplicity and clarity of musical ideas, and the relativelystraightforwardtechnical demands of the piece. This title is part of the first CompleteCritical Edition ofWorks by Antonin Dvorak.
