''Légende'' belongs to the genre of the instrumental lyrical piece, widely cultivated by nineteenth - century composers. ''Légende'' is one of Wieniawski's most popular works. Its simple construction, clear, unequivocal, yet varied, harmony, the lyrical, rather sentimental and melancholic, melody, and the wealth of tones elicited from the violin - all this meant that the work was quite easily received, and at the same time highly charged emotionally; as a result, it appealed to a wide range of listeners. It is a typical ''piece de salon'', and has much in common with works of this type by other violin virtuosi of that period, such as Vieuxtemps, Leonard and Ernst.
