Nicholas Kok is an extremely versatile conductor and musician: not just a conductor and composer, he is also a gifted pianist and accompanist, who has worked at numerous prestigious institutions at home and abroad. He has written music for the BBC Singers, the Danish Radio VokalEnsemblet, the Hanke Brothers and the Junge Oper Stuttgart.
Alleluia was commissioned by the Philharmonia Chorus Stuttgart, an ambitious non-professional choir headed by Johannes Knecht, the former long-standing director of the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus. The result is a contemporary piece for mixed choir that is perfect for all ensembles who welcome a challenge. The lively, joyful and varied nature of the score means that the piece will retain your interest even after lengthy rehearsals; in fact, the fascination only grows over time. The fact that Nicholas Kok was inspired by the chiming of London’s bells presents many different performance opportunities: as a festive opening to a church service, to accompany joyful occasions in the church year (Christmas, Easter, baptisms, weddings, etc.) or as a thrilling opener or closer to a concert program.
