Daniel Dorff has arranged the famed Pachelbel Canon in D as solo with piano accompaniment for all standard instruments, as well as for several ensembles. We now present three new piano trio arrangements with new opportunities for performance. As with a round, each instrument plays the same passages, but starting at different intervals. The ingenious overlapping creates the intricate sounds when the instruments play off of each other in the world's most beloved canon. For intermediate to advanced performers.

Pachelbel
(1653-1706)

Johann Pachelbel was
a leading organist and
composer of the Baroque
period. Most of his
compositions are sacred
choral music and organ
solos featuring elaborate
counterpoint. He was a
well-respected teacher, and
one of his students was J.S.
Bach’s father.

Pachelbel composed his
Canon and Gigue in D
Major for 3 Violins and
Continuo, or bass-andchords
accompaniment. The
term “canon” signifies that
all three violinists played
the same part, starting
at different times, just
like a round. Pachelbel’s
Canon is also a chaconne,
which means it is built
over a repeating chord
progression.
