Commissioned by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra for the Rascher Quartet. Ba Yin means “eight sounds,” and the composer has drawn inspiration from the Chinese traditional eight sound classifications: metal, stone, silk, bamboo, gourd, clay, leather, and wood, to create a fascinating soundscape for saxophones and strings.
