The Concerto No. 10 for Two Pianos and Orchestra in E-flat major K. 365 plays a special role in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s oeuvre: Alongside the Concerto for Two or Three Pianos K. 242, it is the only one written for more than one keyboard instrument. Mozart probably composed it in 1779, after his return from a trip to Mannheim and Paris. It was possibly intended for performances with himself and his sister as soloists. For the first time in a Mozart concerto, the bassoons are given their own parts which are often independent from the bass part.
Mozart wrote cadenzas for two pianos for the first and third movement of this concerto, which are included in the piano reduction (BA10475-90). This additional cadenza booklet contains an older version of Mozart’s cadenza for the third movement for single piano, as well as original cadenzas for the first and third movements for two pianos by Carl Reinecke, Camille Saint-Saëns, Josef Rheinberger and Reynaldo Hahn and a cadenza for the third movement for one piano by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
This cadenza booklet complements the piano reduction of this concerto (BA10475-90) and the full score of this concerto which was already published in 1976 as part of the “New Mozart Edition”. The full score is still available alongside the corresponding performance material (BA05390).
