Jan Dismas Zelenka's great church music work, which he composed mainly for the Dresden Electoral Court, also includes a number of smaller sacred compositions of general or special liturgical purpose. Among them are the two small Christmas cantatas for solo voice (alto resp. tenor), flutes and strings Dormi nate, dormi Deus ZWV 171 and Dormi, Deus incarnate ZW 172 named “Motetti pro Nativitate.” Both works consist only of a recitative and an aria, the flutes lend a pastoral mood.
