A Christmas Herald begins with a signal fanfare; this introduces a lyrical theme which soon turns out to be a descant to Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, which is then presented by trombones and euphoniums. The famous Christmas carol then gradually transforms back into the fanfare, which ends the work as it began. A wonderful opening for a Christmas concert!
