Anthony Braxton is internationally recognized as an icon of jazz. Born in 1945, the composer and multi-instrumentalist has also composed over 500 works, from chamber music to orchestra and opera. At the Darmstadt Summer Course 2023, Germany, Anthony Braxton and his musical practice could be experienced in various constellations.

The CD features live recordings from two performances held during the 2023 Darmstadt Summer Course. It includes the world première of Thunder Music on August 7, as well as the performance of the Creative Orchestra Workshop, conducted by Braxton, on August 15.

The CD accompanies the book Anthony Braxton – 50+ Years of Creative Music, edited by Timo Hoyer and Kobe Van Cauwenberghe, that presents the outcomes of the first international conference solely dedicated to Anthony Braxton’s life and work, held during the Darmstadt Summer Course, on August 8–9, 2023.
