This piece hits the ground running and keeps up a flashy, quick pace, allowing players to show off their chops with plenty of jazzy flourishes. FLASH! for Piccolo and Piano
FLASH! was designed as a flashy showpiece for Kate Prestia-Schaub who premiered it at the 2009 International Piccolo Symposium, where it won 1st Prize in the IPS biennial composers’ competition. FLASH! uses a jazz-tinged accompaniment and challenging rhythms to create a bravura piece based on scales and arpeggios that lay well under the fingers. Walfrid Kujala later commissioned a band version of the accompaniment, and Sarah Jackson then commissioned an orchestral accompaniment, all available from Presser.
