The compositional characteristics of this opus are clearly inspired by the great tradition of the Neapolitan school of the first half of the 17th century in which Strozzi was educated. The volume presents a variety of musical forms, a predilection for a contrapuntual style, chromaticisms, flamboyant harmonies and score form in movable type, all features that have led musicologists to asses Strozzi as an out-of-date epigone.
