Siegbert Rampe's two volume edition is a journey to the early 17th century with a wealth of valuable pieces for keyboard instrument. Volume 1 presents works by Johann Christoph Bach (J. S. Bach's uncle), Ferdinand III of Habsburg, Johann Pachelbel, Heinrich Scheidemann, Samuel Scheidt and others.
Many of the works appear for the first time in print. Especially noteworthy are a newly discovered prelude presumably by Johann Pachelbel and the sole surviving keyboard work by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber.
This scholarly-critical edition is based entirely on the surviving sources. In addition to a critical report and a list of sources, it contains a detailed preface with sections on ornamentation, editorial method and performance practice.
