Already his contemporaries considered Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger (1716–1782) to be one of the best organ virtuosos and improvisers. As a composer, Seger focused mainly on sacred music and organ music. This critical revision of his preludes, toccatas and fugues is published as part of the Musica Antiqua Bohemica series. The compositions build on the works of B. M. Cernohorský and his school, which draws its style from Italian and South-German organ music; reflections of the influence of J. S. Bach can also be found. The pieces retain a Late-Baroque character, but despite this a separation from the Baroque style can clearly be seen. A detailed historical Preface and Editor's Notes are included, penned by the experts on old music Jan Racek and Vratislav Belský.
