WEIHNAHCHTEN 21 is not a modernized nativity play, but picks up on contemporary trends in a critical and thoughtful way. In doing so, it is going in the wrong direction. Part 1 is based on biblical events. The 2nd part turns to today's alienations. Part 3 expresses the confidence that the message of love will still reach people in the 21st century. The oratorio with its powerful choruses and gripping solo parts is characterized by the rock idiom and contemporary lyrics. Rap, blues, gospel, Latin music and musical elements are integrated, as well as quotations from Gregorian chant and Bach chorales. Many soloist and choral pieces are also well suited for performances outside of the Christmas season.
