Bruckner studied with Leopold von Zenetti during his time in Kronstorf and at St. Florian, where he became acquainted with the Protestant church chorale, especially in settings by Johann Sebastian Bach. The chorale "Dir, Herr, dir will ich mich ergeben" dates from this time.
