ntroduction et Rondo Capriccioso (114-41433)
by Camille Saint-Saëns
Arranged by Denis Bouriakov for Flute and Piano
A favorite standard showpiece of the violin repertoire, Camille Saint-Saëns’ Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso is an 8-minute delight, full of catchy melodies and sparkling passagework. The celebrated flute virtuoso Denis Bouriakov of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra has adapted the solo part to become a flute showpiece, as recorded on his 2009 CD of violin repertoire transcribed for flute. Bouriakov’s transcription fits perfectly with the standard orchestral accompaniment as well as the present piano reduction.
Denis Bouriakov
Principal Flute of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Denis Bouriakov has enjoyed one of the fastest growing careers among flutists of his generation. He has won numerous awards at many of the world’s most prestigious international flute competitions, including the Jean-Pierre Rampal, Munich ARD, Prague Spring, Carl Nielsen, and Kobe competitions.
Denis has made several recordings, including the Bach Double Concerto with William Bennett and English Chamber Orchestra. His first solo CD was released in 2009, including the premiere recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto on flute, as well as the present transcription of Saint-Saëns’ Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso. Denis has performed as soloist with many leading orchestras around the world.
Born in 1981 in Crimea (now Ukraine), Denis entered the Moscow Central Special Music School at age 10, and within a year began his career of performing in Russia’s premier concert halls and soloing in over 20 countries around the world. Denis later studied at the Royal Academy of Music with William Bennett in London, earning the Principal’s Award and the Fellowship Award which involved giving lessons and classes at the Royal Academy. In 2006, the Academy awarded Denis with the prestigious title of Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. While a student in London, Denis freelanced as Principal Flute with some of the UK’s major orchestras as well as overseas.
Shortly after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, Denis gained his first job as Principal Flute with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland. In 2008, he was appointed Principal Flute with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and later that season he won the highly coveted position of Principal Flute with the Metropolitan Opera.
