The Zarathustra compositions by Hans Schanderl were commissioned by the Hugo Distler Chor in Berlin. The words are taken from the celestial songs in the Awesta writings, in their original language. The combination of Oriental tonal characteristics and European motet artistry gives these works a unique character.
