Christmas Concertos have always been popular, either enhancing the seasonal festivities or as musical works in their own right. Such pieces were common in the Baroque era, one being by the Italian composer Giuseppe Torelli(1658-1709). His Christmas Concerto is in the character of a siciliana, a shepherds' dance in 12/8 time also know as 'Pastoral'.
